Investment management built around independent thinking.
PortfolioLab was built on a simple belief: investors deserve more than a prepackaged model portfolio.
We combine fundamental investment research, disciplined portfolio construction, modern technology, and individualized implementation to build portfolios around the investor—not around a product shelf.
More than 15 years spent building and managing investment portfolios.
For more than 15 years, I have worked in investment management, building, implementing, and overseeing portfolios for individuals, families, and financial advisers.
Over the course of my career, I have overseen more than $250 million in client assets across hundreds of separate investment accounts.
That experience shaped how I think about portfolio management today. Good investing requires more than choosing securities. It requires research, valuation discipline, risk management, implementation, technology, and a repeatable process for monitoring every account.
The portfolio should be designed for the investor.
Much of modern investment management has moved toward standardized models. Investors with very different objectives, tax circumstances, existing holdings, liquidity requirements, and risk tolerances can ultimately find themselves owning remarkably similar portfolios.
PortfolioLab was created to take a more individualized approach.
That means understanding what the investor already owns, what they are trying to accomplish, what risks they can tolerate, when they may need liquidity, and where attractive investment opportunities actually exist.
Managing portfolios at scale requires more than investment ideas.
Managing hundreds of separate accounts taught me that successful portfolio management requires systems capable of turning investment decisions into consistent execution.
Portfolio Construction
Designing and managing portfolios across individual client accounts with different objectives, restrictions, and circumstances.
Trading & Implementation
Translating investment decisions into coordinated execution while maintaining account-level oversight.
Rebalancing Systems
Building processes designed to maintain portfolio targets while accounting for cash flows, restrictions, and changing markets.
Workflow Automation
Using technology to improve consistency, monitoring, operational accuracy, and portfolio-management workflows.
Risk Analysis
Evaluating portfolios at both the individual-security and portfolio level rather than relying solely on allocation labels.
Research Technology
Integrating modern data and AI-assisted research tools into security screening, analysis, and portfolio monitoring.
Fundamental value. Economic context. Independent judgment.
My investment philosophy has been shaped by two distinct but complementary frameworks.
Benjamin Graham
Graham's approach to investing emphasized fundamental business analysis, intrinsic value, disciplined valuation, and the concept of a margin of safety.
Those principles remain central to how I evaluate individual companies today.
Ludwig von Mises
My broader economic thinking is influenced by the Austrian tradition associated with Ludwig von Mises.
Interest rates, credit, monetary conditions, incentives, prices, and capital allocation can materially influence businesses, industries, and financial markets.
Graham helps frame the business and the price. Mises helps frame the economic environment.
PortfolioLab brings those perspectives together with modern portfolio management, technology, risk analysis, and individualized implementation.
Traditional investment discipline supported by modern tools.
Fundamental investing does not require outdated research methods. PortfolioLab uses modern data, portfolio-management technology, automation, and AI-assisted research tools to help analyze securities and portfolios more efficiently.
Technology can accelerate research and identify patterns, but it does not replace judgment. Investment decisions remain grounded in fundamental analysis, valuation, risk, and the client's objectives.
A portfolio built with intention.
Customized
Portfolios are designed around client objectives, risk, liquidity, time horizon, existing investments, and circumstances.
Research Driven
Investments are evaluated for their individual merits and their role within the total portfolio.
Valuation Aware
Opening an account does not automatically mean every dollar must be invested immediately regardless of valuation.
Risk Conscious
Concentration, downside exposure, liquidity, correlation, and potential permanent impairment are considered alongside return.
Actively Monitored
Portfolios and investment theses are reviewed as businesses, valuations, markets, and client circumstances evolve.
Independently Managed
Portfolio construction begins with the client's needs and investment opportunity set rather than a predetermined product model.
Markets matter. Life outside of them does too.
When I am not researching companies, studying markets, or working on portfolios, most of my time is spent with family.
Where portfolios are designed. Not distributed.
