CUSTOMIZED RETIREMENT INCOME MANAGEMENT

Retirement Income,
Engineered.

Use every available tool—bonds, dividend-paying stocks, covered-call overlays, and structured notes—to pursue the highest level of risk-adjusted retirement income appropriate for your portfolio.

Rather than delegating your income strategy to funds or ETFs managed around a broad mandate, PortfolioLab manages the underlying investments directly—making decisions with your individual income needs, risk tolerance, and financial objectives in mind. Designed primarily for investors with $1 million or more in investable assets.

THE PORTFOLIOLAB PHILOSOPHY

Four distinct tools. One retirement income strategy.

By combining individual investments into one coordinated portfolio, we retain the flexibility to select, adjust, and manage each position around your specific income objectives. Each asset plays a defined role—and every decision considers the portfolio as a whole.

DESIGN YOUR OWN INCOME STRATEGY

Explore what your retirement portfolio could look like.

Every retirement portfolio starts with a different balance, income goal, and tolerance for risk. Our Interactive Income Explorer is designed to let you test your own assumptions instead of relying on someone else's prepackaged allocation.

INTERACTIVE PORTFOLIO PLANNING

Make the portfolio yours.

Enter your portfolio information, determine how much to allocate to each income strategy, and adjust assumptions to explore how different decisions may affect possible income and portfolio outcomes.

01

Start with your numbers. Enter your portfolio value, time horizon, and income objectives.

02

Build your own asset mix. Set allocations to bonds, dividend stocks, and structured notes, then choose whether to use covered calls on eligible stock holdings.

03

Adjust the assumptions. Explore different cash-flow rates, volatility assumptions, and other model inputs.

04

See a range of possibilities. Review an illustrative cone of potential outcomes rather than a single-point forecast.

Wider possibilities over time, not a promised result.
Conceptual illustration only. It does not represent actual, expected, or simulated returns.

The explorer is intended for education and scenario analysis. User-selected assumptions and modeled outcomes are hypothetical—not investment recommendations, guaranteed outcomes, or reliable predictions. Potential income should be evaluated alongside capital risk, liquidity, fees, taxes, and total return. The separate tool will require its own methodology and compliance review before public launch.

THE BUILDING BLOCKS

The pros and cons of each asset class should be understood clearly.

Each tool can contribute something different. Each tool also introduces tradeoffs. PortfolioLab evaluates both before deciding how, or whether, a strategy belongs in a client portfolio.

  • Call risk and reinvestment risk

  • Upside can be capped if shares are called away
  • Underlying stock downside risk still remains
04 / STRUCTURED NOTES

Structured Notes

POTENTIAL ROLE: TARGETED, CONDITIONAL INCOME OPPORTUNITIES
Potential advantages
  • Can provide access to defined payoff structures
  • May create contingent coupon opportunities
  • Can be tailored to specific market views and risk parameters

PORTFOLIOLAB COORDINATION

The right mix depends on the client—not on a prebuilt model.

Two investors can want income and still need very different portfolios. One may prioritize principal stability and scheduled cash flows. Another may accept more equity exposure or structured income opportunities in pursuit of a higher level of cash flow. Coordination is where customization happens.

01 / UNDERSTAND

Start with your risk tolerance and income objective

We begin by understanding how much income your asset base can produce, when you need it, how much market fluctuation you can tolerate, and how your retirement assets fit into your broader financial picture.

02 / ALLOCATE

Adjust the strategy mix to fit the investor

A more conservative client may lean more heavily on bonds and selective dividend exposure. A more growth-oriented income investor may use a different balance of equities, option overlays, or structured notes. Not every portfolio uses every tool in the same proportion.

03 / COORDINATE

Manage the interactions between the sleeves

We evaluate overlapping issuer risk, maturity schedules, liquidity needs, tax considerations, option obligations, and overall portfolio concentration so the parts are working together—not competing with each other.

04 / ADAPT

Keep managing as markets and life change

As bonds mature, dividends change, option opportunities shift, or your spending needs evolve, the portfolio can be adjusted. Ongoing management matters as much as initial design.

Customization is the point.

The objective is not to force every investor into the same yield product. It is to design a coordinated portfolio that reflects the client’s own risk tolerance, income goals, and investment constraints.

WHY THIS DIFFERS FROM A PREPACKAGED APPROACH

One fund can be useful. It does not have to define the entire strategy.

Many retirement-income solutions begin with a product and ask the investor to accept its holdings, mandate, and distribution approach. That typically means control over buying and selling the underlying assets is delegated to a fund manager who does not know the client’s specific income needs, liquidity preferences, tax considerations, or risk tolerance. PortfolioLab begins with the investor and then builds the portfolio around that investor’s objectives.

PREPACKAGED APPROACH

Start with the fund.

The manager of the fund generally decides the holdings, the income process, the trading decisions, and the risk profile—even though that manager usually does not know the client’s specific retirement-income needs.

  • The product mandate drives the portfolio
  • Buying and selling decisions are controlled by the fund manager
  • Cash-flow timing and risk exposures may not match the retiree’s needs
  • Less control over the individual securities, tax lots, and tradeoffs
THE PORTFOLIOLAB APPROACH

Start with the investor.

We select, buy, sell, and coordinate the holdings based on the role each investment should play inside the client’s broader plan.

  • Build around risk tolerance, spending needs, liquidity, and tax awareness
  • Maintain direct control over buying and selling the underlying assets
  • Assign each asset a defined role in the income architecture
  • Monitor and adjust the portfolio as conditions change

A customized multi-asset portfolio is not inherently safer or higher yielding than a fund. Its value lies in the ability to tailor the holdings, risk exposures, and ongoing decisions to the individual client.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions worth asking before pursuing retirement income.

Will every portfolio include all four tools?

Not necessarily. Portfolio construction depends on the investor’s circumstances, account size, tax considerations, liquidity needs, and risk tolerance. Some portfolios may emphasize only certain components, and some strategies may not be appropriate at all.

Can you guarantee a certain amount of monthly income or a target yield?

No. Interest payments, dividends, option premiums, and structured-note coupons can vary or may not be paid. Market values can decline and principal can be lost. Income and performance are not guaranteed.

Why not just use an income ETF or mutual fund?

A fund can be a useful holding, but it is still a prepackaged solution. PortfolioLab’s approach is different because the portfolio is built around the individual client rather than around a single product mandate.

How do you tailor the portfolio to risk tolerance?

We evaluate the investor’s income needs, sensitivity to market declines, liquidity requirements, and overall investment objectives. Those factors help determine the role, size, and appropriateness of each strategy within the portfolio.

Who is this designed for?

This offering is designed primarily for investors with $1 million or more in investable assets who want a more customized retirement-income approach. Suitability is reviewed individually.
